Bishop Robert Marshall, the Bishop of Alexandria, instituted seminarians into the ministry of acolyte on Wednesday, October 13th at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, LA. Andrew Smith, a seminarian for the Diocese of Tyler, was instituted as an acolyte with several of his classmates.
The ministry of acolyte is the final ministry before seminarians are ordained to the diaconate. In the rite of institution, the bishop hands those to be instituted a paten with bread and says, “Take this vessel with bread for the celebration of the Eucharist. Make your life worthy of your service at the table of the Lord and of his Church.”
