Sure, when I lifted my son up to that statue I was being light-hearted, but the gesture was not entirely symbolic. It was my way of confirming to myself that I had truly given all I have back to Christ through Mary. Even that willful little boy.
About Stacy A. Trasancos
Stacy A. Trasancos, PhD is the Executive Director of St. Philip Institute of Catechesis and Evangelization in the Diocese of Tyler. She is responsible for directing the team to fulfill the vision that Bishop Strickland set forth in his Constitution on Teaching the Catholic Faith. She has a PhD in Chemistry from Penn State University and a MA in Dogmatic Theology from Holy Apostles College and Seminary. Dr. Trasancos is author of three books on faith and science, has written numerous articles for Catholic journals and magazines, and has appeared across the nation on Catholic radio and television. She has seven children and five grandchildren and makes a home with her husband, Jose, in Hideaway, TX.
Virtue makes us different from dogs, cats, monkeys, dogs, spiders, and worm food. Virtue is the power that forms us into who we are meant to be. It’s how to live better lives and be happy. It’s about love.
Although there are active bioethical debates around the world that use all sorts of sophisticated language, this denial of childhood to the youngest among us is at the heart of the arguments. Don’t fall for the sophistry. The academic, medical, and political debates in the international community go awry on this very simple question. Is an embryo a child?
